Hi, I’m Josée Langille, the owner and groomer behind Swift Clipps Grooming.
Swift Clipps is a registered, insured, in-home dog grooming salon located in Hemford Forest, Nova Scotia, where my number one priority is always the health, safety, and comfort of your dog.
Animals have been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember. Growing up surrounded by pets, spending many years in 4-H, experiencing countless animal encounters throughout my childhood, and working as a veterinary assistant all helped shape my passion for working with animals.
Eventually, that passion became a career and Swift Clipps was born.
The story of Swift Clipps really begins with my own dog, Gunner.
Gunner is my oldest Border Collie and has a thick, fluffy, rough coat that I quickly discovered was very different from what I was used to caring for. When he was younger, I honestly didn't know how to properly groom or maintain his coat. I wasn't taking him to a professional groomer, and it didn't take long for me to realize I had a lot to learn.
So, I started learning.
The more I learned about grooming, coat care, skin health, brushing, bathing, drying, and proper maintenance, the more fascinated I became. What started as wanting to do better for my own dog turned into a genuine passion for helping other dogs and their owners.
Gunner was the inspiration behind Swift Clipps, and he continues to be a big part of why I care so much about educating owners and helping them understand their dog's individual coat and grooming needs.
I wanted to make sure I wasn't simply learning through trial and error, so I pursued professional education and completed my Professional Dog Grooming Diploma through JKL Grooming Academy, including hands-on practicum training.
Since opening Swift Clipps, I've continued to build my skills and experience through hands-on grooming, mentorship, continuing education, and professional development.
I am also Canine First Aid Certified and a Fear Free Certified Groomer.
My education doesn't stop with a diploma. Grooming is an industry where there is always something new to learn, and I believe continuing education is an important part of being a responsible professional. I'm currently continuing my education through the Canadian Professional Pet Stylists (CPPS) certification program as I work toward further developing my skills.
To me, grooming isn't simply about making a dog look good when they leave the salon.
It's about comfort, hygiene, coat and skin health, safety, and overall well-being.
Every dog that comes through my door is different. They have different coats, different lifestyles, different grooming histories, different comfort levels, and different personalities. Some dogs love grooming, while others may be nervous, sensitive, or unsure about the experience.
That's why I believe in taking the time to understand the individual dog rather than expecting every dog to fit into the same grooming routine.
I strive to create a calm, patient, and low-stress environment where dogs can feel as comfortable as possible throughout their appointment.
I also believe education is an important part of grooming. One of my favourite things is helping owners understand what they can do at home between appointments from proper brushing techniques to recognizing when a coat needs professional attention.
My goal isn't just to groom your dog today. It's to help you keep them comfortable and healthy between every visit.
When I'm not grooming, I'm usually busy being a wife and mom to my two children.
Our home is also full of animals, because apparently one of the easiest ways to keep life interesting is to keep adding more pets! Our family includes two Border Collies, Gunner and Verb, a cat , an Amazon parrot and an African Grey parrot, A few reptiles and fish. You will see the parrots in my shop. They love having me during the day and love getting customers attention. They have acutally been very helpful for some dogs and pose as a good distraction at times. If a dog is nervous or fixated on them however, i will cover their cages to eliminate any stress!
My dogs are a particularly important part of my life. Gunner and Verb compete in agility and like to try other sports for fun. Spending time training and working with them has given me an even greater appreciation for canine behaviour, communication, confidence, and the individual needs of every dog.
Choosing someone to care for your dog is a big decision. I understand that your dog isn't simply a client, they're part of your family.
When you leave your dog in my care, I want you to feel confident knowing that their safety, comfort, and well-being matter to me.
Swift Clipps has grown so much since I first picked up my grooming tools, and I'm incredibly proud of how far this little business has come. I'm excited to continue learning, improving, and growing while providing dogs with the quality care they deserve.
Thank you for taking the time to get to know a little bit about me, Gunner, and the story behind Swift Clipps Grooming.
I can't wait to meet you and your fur babies! 🐾
